An interesting piece on Consumerism & plutocracy
" Synopsis: How capitalism, unchecked, eventually leads to plutocracy, globalism and plutocracy destroy individuality and how consumerism has invaded and/or replaced faith, love, skill sets, culture, education and pretty much everything valuable in human life."

This piece introduced me to a new term: plutotheism
Wealth = God.
Perhaps it is a small step from tradition American Christianity to this point,
Re Calvin and Puritans and other Calvinist sects:
"Calvin wrote that "Riches themselves and by their nature are not to be at all condemned; and it is even great blasphemy against God to disapprove of riches, implying that a man who possesses them is thereby corrupted. For where do the riches come from, if not from God?" More succinctly, "Adversity is a sign of God's absence, prosperity of his presence."
