We are as gods and have to get good at it

"The shift that has happened in 40 years which mainly has to do with climate change. Forty years ago, I could say in the Whole Earth Catalog, "we are as gods, we might as well get good at it". Photographs of earth from space had that god-like perspective. What I'm saying now is we are as gods and have to get good at it."

Ghost Repeater

Ran into this artist awhile back. From his CD The title song, Ghost repeater:

"...And the girl I loved once
Came to me last night
In a dream with a secret to tell
She whispered close
Can’t you hear the ocean?
As she leaned her ear
Against a shotgun shell"

Space & Solar Baseline Power: Days of Future Past

With Stewart Brand's new book, "Whole Earth Discipline: An Ecopragmatist Manifesto" coming out in October 2009, and being it mentions orbital solar power stations, thought i would post some "1970's" stuff.
This takes me back i tell you. Anyway, the neat thing about solar power stations in orbit is primarily it gets around the "baseline problem" of solar power on a planet where its inhabitants created an electrical power grid that is also the "storage" of the power. Of course, the efficiencies are higher also, etc.

Here is an archival site from the heady days before the U.S. Shuttle was built, dooming us to (with the exception of the Hubble), watching cute tricks in Short Attention Span Theatre.* Those of you into ecological design, sustainability, etc. will find it to be a nice idea generator/cook book also.
Solar power satellite is scattered around it.

The keeper of the flame on this for the last few decades, is here, Al Globus

Here is an introductory section on orbital solar power stations.
